Celebration of Life

Family Home

Their story is not complete without including their love of their home, 1614 El Paso Street, a red brick 2.5 bedroom/1 bath home on the top of El Paso Street hill. Papa Ed had the house built in the mid-30s next to the home of my Great Aunt Leah (Lois' sister) and Great Uncle Milton. Dad grew up in this house with his cousins Marlyn and Ronald next door. His Aunt Ruth (Lois’ sister) and her family lived two houses down the street. Mom and Dad insisted they wanted to spend their entire lives here, and they did. They enjoyed the privacy, the view and the neighbors. Many family picnics and neighborhood block parties were hosted at the house and in the backyard. Ted and Elaine bought it from Ed and Lois after Dad left military service. - KS

2019

2021: Prior to the house being put on the market. It sold quickly.

Driveway (steeper than this photo shows) between 1614 and 1616 El Paso St.

2020: Dad kept a revolving outdoor gallery in the front yard.

1936 photo, from Dad’s journal. Leah and Milton’s house (to the right) was a similar model.

Ted and first cousin Marlyn Rupp, 1934

The house served as a backdrop for many photos.

1960: Elaine, Kathleen, David, Ted and a neighbor on the front porch.

1994 on the front porch. Elaine and Ted with Zoe, Zara and Zachry. That’s their keeshond, Jessie. Love that this photo was taken and printed despite Zara’s unhappiness!

1994: Elaine, Zoe and Zachry in front. David and Valerie with Zara on hip.

1994: Ted and Elaine with Zoe, Zara and Zachry on the front porch. Jesse was their Keeshond, a very good watchdog.

2019: Zoe Soens Herbst de Cortina and Lincoln, Ted and Elaine’s first great-grandchild. (Theodore would arrive in 2021 and Zander in 2023.)
