Celebration of Life
The Travelers: A selection of photos
The Soens family embarked on a summer-long camping trip in 1967. We visited the Renger cousins in Salt Lake City and Uncle Roger and family in Seattle, Washington. Other stops included Fort Yankton in S. Dakota, Wyoming to see prehistoric rock trees, Mt. Rushmore in S. Dakota, Little Big Horn Battlefield in Montana, Crater Lake in Oregon, and redwood forests in California. I have wonderful memories of this trip, as it was the first time we really traveled. (David’s memories sadly mainly consist of how he was in charge of deflating air mattresses.) Years later, Mom told me that the last part of trip was tough, as they realized they were running out of money. It was a lot more expensive than they had anticipated, and there were no ATMs in the ‘60s!
Ted hiked the Appalachians and camped out west on trips with Ivan Jirak. Mom took Grandma Peg on a trip to Hawaii. After retirement, the international travel began…Europe and Canada to visit David as well as to take many river cruises, Bermuda, China, Aruba, Kenya, and Mexico. Ted’s tours included Galapagos Island, Baffin Island, Ecuador, New Zealand and Peru. To cheer Elaine up in 2019, Ted created a large, long memory poster with lots of photos from their travels.
